Lorenza Celletti was born in Rome in 1945. Her father, Guido, was an Italian lawyer, and her mother, Edy, was an Italian teacher. At a very early age, Lorenza befriended the young prince Rainier III of Monaco, who loved to dance. He wore the tights, dances and even the hair-do of the male roles in his ballet company, and the bejeweled gowns of the Parisian stage. This the little Lorenza soon decided she wanted to do. Gradually, she began to look for costumes and new friends to amuse her, and look for a ballet school. It was at the Royal College of Ballet in London that she found both, in June 1963. The school was like a revelation, \"a spectacular world of dreams and colours swept away immediately from the daily humdrum of school\". The school attributed a great importance to dancing, based fundamentally on the brilliant works of the White Russian choreographer George Balanchine, and, in subsequent years, inspired some of the most talented students of the modern period in ballet - the great Luciana Berger, Anna-Louiza Hunter, Marina Poplavskaya, etc. Celletti, like the rest of the students of the school, quickly moved from adagio to allegro, from the corps to the rôles, and from the first to the second piano. For her, the training of Balanchine's works was simply demanding and challenging - to her, it was a ladder she climbed every day with pleasure and fun. She then, at eighteen years old, went to the Royal Ballet School in London, the IXth season of the school by Maurice Bjoerne, from whom she already held a scholarship as a student of the Royal Ballet. She continued studying under Vladimir Vasiliev, who made her a member of the Ballet Corps. She took to the role of the queen, and wore the huge and heavy tutu of the queen, a role in which her talent was discovered. Then, once again, her career was interrupted by illness. At the time, she had a peculiar disease that struck her leg, which had to be amputated in February 1974. She spent a whole year in the rehabilitation wing of the hospital before returning to the studio. Thus, after a year and one month, she returned to the stage. 7211a4ac4a
